Why are metal valve caps not recommended on vehicle tyres?

Created by Jonathan Fry, Modified on Fri, 23 May at 9:39 AM by Jonathan Fry

Metal valve caps are not recommended for vehicle tyres primarily because they can corrode or seize onto the valve stem, especially in harsh weather conditions or when exposed to road salt. This makes them difficult to remove, potentially damaging the valve stem during maintenance. Plastic or rubber caps are less likely to corrode and are easier to handle. Additionally, metal caps can sometimes be over-tightened, which may strip the valve stem threads. Using plastic caps with rubber seals also helps ensure an airtight seal, preventing air leaks.
